Igor B. Raikov
The Protozoan Nucleus. Morphology and Evolution.
Wien, New York: Springer-Verlag, 1982. - 474 p.
This volume is the first up-to-date account of the morphology of the protozoan nucleus. Critically reviewing recent
research and including much of his own work, Raikov presents an unprecedented analysis of the morphology and morphofunctional
aspects of protozoan karyology. Based in large part on electron microscopic studies, the nuclei of both eukaryotic and
mesokaryotic protozoa - including their morphology, mitosis, meiosis, nuclear dualism, and evolution - are described.
A special discussion on the macronuclei of the ciliates is included.
Protozoologists, cytologists, and microbiologists and cell biologists in general will welcome the previously inaccessible
information presented here.
